I am incredibly proud and excited to share that Home From Home Canterbury has officially achieved AEGIS accreditation.

When the confirmation arrived, my first reaction was relief.

Relief, pride, and, if I’m honest, a few tears.

For months, I had been working behind the scenes developing policies, strengthening safeguarding procedures, building systems, creating the website, learning new processes, and ensuring every aspect of Home From Home Canterbury met the standards expected by AEGIS.

Alongside running my counselling practice, there were times when the process felt overwhelming. As someone with dyslexia, the paperwork often took me longer than I would have liked. There were moments when I doubted myself, procrastinated, stepped outside my comfort zone and wondered whether I would ever reach the finish line.

But I kept going.

Receiving accreditation wasn’t simply about receiving a certificate. It was confirmation that the vision I had for Home From Home Canterbury had become a reality.

A vision built around creating a safe, welcoming and professionally supported environment for international students studying in Canterbury and the wider UK.

Those words meant a great deal to me because they recognised not only the final outcome, but also the learning, development and perseverance required to get there.

The report also confirmed:

“The Director has demonstrated that they meet the required standard to become an AEGIS accredited member.”

For me, that recognition reflects months of commitment, hard work and determination to build a service that parents, schools and students can trust.

My goal has never been simply to provide a room.

From the very beginning, I wanted Home From Home Canterbury to feel personal, welcoming and genuine.

Moving to another country is exciting, but it can also feel daunting. Students may be adjusting to a new culture, different routines, unfamiliar surroundings and being away from family for the first time.

I believe the small things often make the biggest difference.

Knowing who will be meeting you.

Receiving a welcome message when you arrive safely.

Understanding what to expect.

Having clear communication.

Feeling safe, supported and able to settle into a new environment.

These are often the moments that help students build confidence and begin to feel comfortable in their new surroundings.

One of the most exciting moments following accreditation was being able to contact local schools and share the news.

I was delighted to receive messages of congratulations and begin conversations with staff at local schools.

Those early conversations reinforced something I have always believed:

Strong relationships are at the heart of effective student support.

Good guardianship and homestay provision rely on communication, trust and collaboration between students, parents, schools, educational agents and providers.

I am genuinely excited to continue building those relationships and working alongside schools to support students throughout their time in the UK.

The accreditation report concluded that:

“Home From Home Canterbury meets the required standards to achieve AEGIS accreditation.”

Whilst I am proud of that achievement, I am even more excited about what comes next.

I look forward to welcoming students from around the world, supporting families through what can be both an exciting and challenging transition, and working alongside schools to help ensure students have a positive experience during their time in the UK.
